25 years of the Swiss HAE Association – an anniversary full of encounters

A look back at the history of the association, the development of HAE treatments and the many people who have shaped our community over the past 25 years.

Around 70 members, relatives, HAE specialists and international guests came together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Swiss HAE Association. The ‘Golden Tour’ of Mount Pilatus, with its perfect weather, stunning mountain scenery and plenty of opportunities for personal conversation, provided the ideal setting for this special occasion.

Guests included representatives from the Austrian HAE self-help group and Fanny Schappler from HAE International. The Pig Farmers Big Band from Oftringen provided a special musical atmosphere.

To mark the anniversary, a chronicle entitled ‘25 Years of the Swiss HAE Association’ was produced. It documents key milestones, memories, photographs and stories relating to the development of hereditary angioedema and our association.

Did you know that hereditary angioedema was first described as early as 1888 by the American doctor Dr William Osler? The first HAE patient in Switzerland was diagnosed in 1965 by Prof. em. Dr med. Brunello Wüthrich at the University Hospital of Zurich.

The complete chronicle is now available as a PDF.
